Keith Gaffaney was one of four brothers to serve simultaneously with the Los Angeles Police Department. He retired from the LAPD as a sergeant in 1966, having managed the department's academy in Elysian Park and the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club. He had joined the LAPD in 1936, the third of four brothers to join the LAPD. He served as President of the National Rifle Association from 1981 to 1983. He also served as president of the California Rifle and Pistol Association and as head of the United Sportsmen of California. At the time of his death, he was working as a lobbyist for the California Wildlife Federation. He was survived by his wife (Ruth), a son, two grandchildren, and a brother, Kenneth, who also retired from the LAPD in 1966. He was the son of Clarence Elmer GAFFANEY and Ella Maud HUBBELL.
