Esther K. Parmelee, 92, a lifelong resident of Granby, died late Monday morning (February 25, 2008), at Meadowbrook of Granby. She was born and educated in Granby, a daughter of the late Charles and Caroline (Luther) Messenger. Esther was employed for several years as an administrative assistant for the former Connecticut General Insurance Company currently known as CIGNA of Bloomfield, from which she retired, and in the same capacity for the Superintendent of Schools for the town of Granby. She also volunteered for several years with the Women's Auxiliary of the Lost Acres Fire Department. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Parmelee who died in January of 1976 and leaves one sister, May G. White of Simsbury, one brother, Levester Messenger of Parsonfield, Maine, as well as several nephews, and several grand nieces and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late Eva Holcombe and Linda Cooley. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., with burial to follow in Granby Cemetery, both in Granby. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday evening only from 5 - 8 p.m. and contributions in her memory may be directed to the Granby Ambulance Assn., PO Box 617, Granby, CT, 06035.
