Jose Jesus Huerta, age 91, of Tustin, Calif., formerly of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, Calif.
Jose was born on July 12, 1923, in Tarimoro, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Pascual and Manuela (Hernandez) Huerta. He married Natalie Caroline Sierra on May 11, 1946. She preceded him in death in May of 2004.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; his siblings, Connie McDowell, Sister Pascualita, Pascual Huerta Jr. and Theresa Huerta; and one daughter-in-law, Anita Huerta.
Surviving are his children, Jose Jesus Huerta Jr., of Huntington, Ind., Ramon (Patricia) Huerta of Peoria, Ill., RoseAnn (Scott) Linsley of Mission Viejo, Calif., Dolores (Greg) Bartlett of St. Peters, Mo., and Esperanza Huerta of Yuma, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Conrad Huerta of Cozad, Neb., Salvador Huerta of Gering, Neb., Phillip Huerta of Roswell, N.M., Cora Lucius of Gering, Neb., Rita Garcia of Versailles, Mo., Mary Blanchard of Wray, Colo., and Patrick Huerta of Zollikofer, Switzerland.
Jose served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1951. He then worked as a press operator for Caterpillar for 30 years, before he retired.
He loved to tinker, observe nature and enjoy the company of his beloved Chihuahua, Pepito.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church.
