Anna was born Oct. 4, 1917, to Anslem and Katherine Volk in Strasburg. She attended schools in both Strasburg and Raleigh. Anna married Michael Ternes Oct. 18, 1935, and together they lived and worked on their farm in Raleigh. While in Raleigh, Anna was a member of the Raleigh homemakers and also a member of the Christian Alter Society.
She enjoyed working in her large garden and cooking and baking for her family. Anna later moved to Bismarck, in 1998, where she spent most of her years living in the Patterson Place. She always looked forward to Thursday's, when her sister Evelyn would take her to church and grocery shopping. Anna loved playing cards, which she was excellent at, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were amazed with her ability to count cards. She also had a strong faith, which included praying the rosary on a daily basis and attending mass at St. Mary's. She continued to make kuchen and turtles to share with her family. She always had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to keep up on the activities and sporting events for her family members.
She is survived by four daughters, Kathleen (James) Bohl, Bowbells, Marlene (Russell) Grisham, Paducah, Ky., Patricia (Bill) Morrison, Friendswood, Texas, and Theodora (Doug) Hodson, Kenmare; two sons, Edwin (Mary) Ternes, Helena, Mont., and Marvin Ternes, Raleigh; one brother, Eddie Volk; three sisters, Aurora Dressler, Evelyn Campbell and Lorna Imberry; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael; her parents, Anslem and Katherine; sisters, Cecilia Coombs and Rose Haegele; and brothers, Mike, Pius, Raymond, Jerome and Peter.
