Jean's education included a teaching degree from the State Teacher's College in Albany, N.Y. In early 1943, Jean tried to enlist as a WAC, but was told she needed to gain 10 pounds to meet the minimum weight requirement, which she accomplished in July. She spent the next two years attached to General Eisenhower's staff in London. This is also where she met and married Robert Henderson.
By 1951 Jean, Bob, and three kids had settled on the Bereger Holly Farm on North Whidbey Island. Three more kids later and Jean was managing the Holly Farm while also serving a long tour as the Oak Harbor City Librarian. At the height of the Holly Farm business, they were shipping holly to every state and seven foreign countries.
Jean and Bob were in love with everything outdoors and their camping trips with family and a flock of friends are still fodder for campfire stories today. Jean was an avid reader, gardener, arborist, and cook.
