Bill enlisted in the US Army at the age of 16 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He served for four years and reached the ranks of Corporal.
He was a sales supervisor for Richter Baking Company for over thirty years. During this time he served on the Board of Directors for the Mid - Coast Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association. He was a past member the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He volunteered for over twenty years at Citizens Hospital as a courtesy transport driver. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Bill loved to fish for salmon in Colorado, play dominoes, bridge, and be with people. His favorite times were being with family and being 'PaPa' to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill and his wife, Clementene, loved to travel. After retiring they continued to travel and spent summers at their cabin in Crested Butte, Colorado.
Bill leaves behind the love of his life his wife of sixty one years, Clementene (Albrecht) Stokes Peters; daughter, Annette (Stokes) Hoffmann and husband Wesley of Bryan; grandchildren, Leslie (Stokes) and husband Bo Peckham of Sour Lake, Clint Hoffmann and wife Debbie of College Station, and Wade Hoffmann and Melissa of Frisco; great grandchildren, Lori, Madison, Ryan, Sarah, and Hunter Hoffmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Stokes; grandson, Clay Stokes; and nine brothers and sisters.
