Marcus L. Whitney of No. 6 Jones street, a well known resident of this city died suddenly sometime during Saturday night or early Sunday morning while fulfilling his duties as Janitor and watchman at the National Bank. His lifeless body was found about nine o'clock Sunday evening by Galen B. Whitney, a brother, and John J. Duley, assistant cashier of the Bank.
Deceased was 72 years of age, was born in Port Jervis and was the son of Mariner T. Whitney and Ruhamah Wilcox Irwin Whitney.
He was united in marriage with Miss Nelia Barker of Hawley. The death of Mrs. Whitney and their two children occurred several years ago. Mr. Whitney was a resident of Minneapolis Minn. for forty years. He had lived in this city about one year prior to his death.
Surviving relatives are two brothers, Galen H. Whitney of this city and Eugene Whitney of Fulton, N. Y., two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Smith. of highland Mills and Miss Emma Whitney of New York.
