CENTRAL CITY — Twila M. Campbell, 83, of Central City died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Central City, with the Rev. Tess Hufford officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Central City Cemetery. Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of arrangements.

Twila Mae Campbell was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Central City to Freeman L. and Minnie M. (Land) Larson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dale Campbell of Central City; her children and their spouses, Larry and Debra Campbell of Richardson, Texas; Dan and Cindy Campbell of Benbrook, Texas; Jim and Cindy Campbell of Omaha; and Ann and Tim Christensen of Fullerton.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Lacey Campbell, Ryan Campbell, Amber Smith, Colin Bartlett, Brian Campbell, Eric Campbell, and Grant, Lance and Shane Christensen; and six great-grandchildren, Carter, Rylan, London, Brooke, Lincoln and Blaine.

Twila graduated from Central City High School in 1949 and continued her education at Colorado Women’s College in Denver and Nebraska Central College in Central City.

On Sept. 2, 1951, Twila was united in marriage to Dale Campbell in Central City. While Dale was in the military, Twila taught school. In 1953 and 1954 Twila joined Dale in California, where she worked for the University of California Radiation Laboratory.

In January 1955 they moved to Hawaii, where they lived until Dale was released from active duty in January 1956. They lived in California until 1961, when they returned to make their home in Central City.

Twila was a homemaker and substitute teacher until completing her bachelor of science in elementary education. She also completed many hours to further her teaching skills. She taught in the Central City Public Schools from 1976 until her retirement in 1997.

Twila was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for many years.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Sorority, P.E.O. Chapter AB; Round Table Group; Red Hats; and several ladies and couples bridge clubs.

She enjoyed flowers, getting together with her retired teacher friends, reading, cooking, traveling, Nebraska football and the annual family get-together for the first home game. Her greatest love was for the time she spent with her family.

Those preceding Twila in death were her parents; three sisters, Lucile Schmoker, Helen Flagle and Shirley Booth; and her brother, Larry Larson.
