Marlin D. "Red" Peterson, 80, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at his home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Red was born on Thursday, October 4, 1934 in Elk Prairie Township in Jefferson County, Illinois the son of the late Guy Ermon and Mary Evelyn (Baker) Peterson. He married Patricia Ann Lewis on May 14, 1955 in Nason, Illinois. Surviving family members include his wife: Patricia Ann Peterson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sons: David Dean… Peterson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Rodney Bruce Peterson of Waltonville, Illinois, Terry Lynn Peterson and wife Pamela of Culleoka, Tennessee and Bradley Joe Peterson of Waltonville, Illinois; daughters: Marla Jean Lacey and husband Rickey of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Lee Ann Schuette and husband Paul of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren: Jeremy Lane Clark and wife Kristi of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Miranda Lee Tucker and husband Justin of Nardin, Oklahoma, Kelly Jean Kelley and husband Luke of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Nicole Mary Deneiges Peterson of Waltonville, Illinois, Sarah Jean Peterson of Waltonville, Illinois, Summer Lynn Peterson of Waltonville, Illinois, Taylor Lynn Peterson of Culleoka, Tennessee, Matthew Logan Peterson of Culleoka, Tennessee, Annalee Rae Schuette of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Cody Joe Peterson of Waltonville, Illinois and Sydney RaeAnn Peterson of Waltonville, Illinois; great grandchildren: Alexis Clark, Alaina Clark, Karlie Tucker, Talon Tucker, Laine Tucker, Rickey Tucker and Kenna Kelley; brothers: Jim Peterson and wife Margie Belle of Clinton, Illinois and Tom Peterson and wife Nancy of Salem, Illinois; sisters: Margie Beckham of Decatur, Illinois and Imogene Lance of Decatur, Illinois; sister-in-law: Phyllis Peterson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews also survive. His parents and brother: Bob "Col Pete" Peterson preceded him in death. Red worked at Fischer Body in Willow Springs, Illinois and then later was a foreman at Inland Steel Mine. He operated heavy construction equipment during the building of Interstate 57. He later retired from Freeman 6 Mine in Waltonville, Illinois as the assistant superintendent. He attended First Freewill Baptist Church and was one of the founding Board of Directors of the Illinois Horse Pulling Association.
