Melena (aka Melina, Melvina and Malvina) appears in the 1861 Canada East Census for St. Léon le Grand (Maskinongé) at age 4, together with her parents Pierre Lescadre (farmer, 27) and Louise Rabouin (28) as well as her siblings Elie (8), Mathilde (8), twin sister Olive (4), and brother Dolphus (2). The spellings of her name and the dates of her birth vary from one source to the next. (She once told her son Calvin that she never knew her own birth date.) She and her husband Peter Albert migrated from Canada to the US in the 1870s before they had their first child, Joseph, in 1878, who died at an early age. Six other children followed who all survived to ripe adult ages: William (Bill) Francis, Clara (Cora), Henri (Henry), Eli (Elie), Calvin Joseph and Georges (George). Husband Peter passed away on July 6, 1913. Melena lived with her children at various locations in and around Laconia NH. According to her death certificate Melena died on Oct. 22, 1938, age 79, widow of Pierre Laflame (sic) and daughter of Narcise Lescatte. This information was provided by her son Bill "to the best of knowledge".
