She was born in White County on January 23, 1901, the daughter of William and Sarah Poole Bishop. On July 1, 1922 she was married to Henry Newman, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Stanley of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Walter "Bud" of Pekin, a daughter, Mariam Catlin of Hodgenville, Kentucky; two brothers, Elton Bishop of Norris City and Claude Bishop of Normal; a sister, Ellen Harlow of Norris City; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 25, at the Donald Campbell Funeral Home Chapel in Norris City with the Rev. Russell Pedigo and the Rev. Troy Alexander officiating. Burial was in Old Prairie Cemetery.
