Sigmund Odenheimer was born on 31 March 1860 at Odenheim, now part of the municipality (Gemeinde) of Östringen, Baden-Württemberg, the son of Seligman Odenheimer and Mina (Reinach) Odenheimer. He was president of Lane Cotton Mills for fifty-nine years and a major benefactor of Audubon Park. A resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, he died at "his summer home near Covington" at the age of eighty-four. He was survived by his wife, Pauline Freyhan Odenheimer, whom he married on 19 January 1898 at New Orleans; a son, Freyhan Odenheimer; and two daughters, Alice Freyhan Kay (Mrs. William de Young Kay) and Marion Freyhan Saal (Mrs. Raymond Saal).
