Alfred (Sam) Hammock, 73, of Straight Fork, passed away suddenly on Monday evening, April 25, 1983, at his home. Mr. Hammock was the son of the late J. M. Hammock and the late Arizona Phillips Hammock. He was a member of the Helenwood Baptist Church, and was a 52-year member of the Oneida Masonic Lodge #695 F&AM. He is survived by his wife, Irene Marcum Hammock of Straight Fork; two sisters: Laura Waddell of Oak Ridge, and Mrs. G. W. (Pearl) Hill of West Union, W. Va.; one brother, L. C. Hammock of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday) at Helenwood Baptist Church, with Rev. Milford Cecil officiating. The Goad Family will sing. Burial will follow in the Marcum Cemetery at Straight Fork. Oneida Masonic Lodge #695, conducted a Masonic Memorial Service Wednesday evening, April 27, at the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
