BRONX, New York – George Roma Simmons, 62, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at his residence. He was a native of Pontotoc. He was the son of the late Marion Simmons and Mary Green Simmons. He was a carpenter and a member of the First Corinthian Baptist Church of New York City. He loved sports and his family.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Pontotoc Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Baber officiating. Burial will be in the East County Line Cemetery in Houlka. Kenneth I.. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Simmons of Bronx, N.Y.; two sons, MaShawn Simmons of Bronx, N.Y., and Jeffery (Nina) Lyons of Pontotoc; one daughter, Brenda (Larry) Lyons of Pontotoc; two Goddaughters, Maqueda Doctor of Queens, N.Y., and Venita (Rahmell) Heard of Bronx, N.Y.; one brother, Joe Simmons of Okolona; two sisters, Mary (Clemie) Sistrunk of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Daisy Smithenson of Beloit, Wisc.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family hour from 6 to 7 p.m.
