SALVATORE F. PAONESSA, SR.
Salvatore F. Paonessa Sr., 76, who retired as a corporal from the Niagara County Sheriff's Department in 1977, died Friday (April 13, 2001) in the Schoellkopf Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Born in Niagara Falls, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, taking part in the Battle of Normandy.
Paonessa worked for the Niagara County Sheriff's Department for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Theodora Bartolone; two sons, Salvatore Jr. and Nicholas, both of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Catherine White and Nancy, both of Niagara Falls; and eight grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5604 Lindbergh Ave., following prayers at 10 a.m. in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
