Darwin “Mac” Francis McNinch, age 89, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully Friday, December 19, 2014.
He was born on January 27, 1925, in Fond du Lac, WI the son of Theodore D. and Mabel L. (Raimann) McNinch. He married Dolores Goeser on July 21, 1951.
Mac was the manager of the Big Shoe store, later known as Schiff Shoes, in downtown Oshkosh for 35 years. After corporate restructurings, he worked at Schiff Shoes in Neenah until his retirement.
Mac was most proud of his service during World War II as a Pfc. in the 134th Infantry Regiment. He participated in the invasion of France and was wounded during battle in Nancy, France. He was later granted the Purple Heart. He was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans and regularly participated in distribution of forget-me-nots.
Mac is survived by his wife, Dolores (Goeser) McNinch of Oshkosh, three children, Patrick McNinch of Mequon, WI; Barbara (Charles LaForge) McNinch of Soldotna, AK; and Terance (Peggy) McNinch of Houghton, MI; four grandchildren, Alhasha McLean of Seattle, WA; Tesla Lipke of Mequon, WI; Ben McNinch of Craig, MT; and Jason McNinch of Chicago, IL; and one great grandchild, Brayden Lipke of Mequon, WI; sister-in-law, Nancy (Doug) McNinch of Fond du Lac, WI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sisters and their husbands Cynthia Jean (Gilbert) Smet and Marles (Eugene) Curran, and four brothers and their wives, Russell (Mildred) McNinch, Douglas McNinch, Harold (Joy) McNinch, and Gordon, (Eleanor) McNinch.
Visitation will be from 11A.M. until the time of service at Noon on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Konrad-Behlman funeral home, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh, WI. Father Michael Warden will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Mac requested that donations be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans.
