Born December 13, 1948, in San Francisco, to Matthew and Faye Huddleston. Matt grew up in the city alongside his brothers and sister Ralph, Tony, and Robin.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 and served as a tank mechanic in Okinawa during the conflict in Vietnam before returning home and marrying high school sweetheart Marge. The two lived in the Santa Cruz mountains for a number of years before settling in Santa Rosa in 1979. Together they raised five children. Matt worked as a landscape designer for both residential and corporate properties. The foundations of many of his designs can still be seen around Sonoma and Napa counties. His knowledge of horticulture and ecology could not be matched.

He spent much time fishing the lakes and rivers of Northern California with his friends and children. Matt led countless cookouts over the years and was a founding member of what became a large group that would annually trek to the American River for a men's only camping weekend. He ensured, that like him, his kids knew hard work, were lovers of good music, became masters of the Frisbee toss, ping pong, and the old adage "give respect to get respect".

He was a history buff who enjoyed endless discussion and pouring over maps and books, which would later earn him the name among his friends "The Professor". In recent years he developed an interest in photography, with many of his pictures published in the Press Democrat. Matt was extremely proud of his time served and the camaraderie he shared with fellow veterans and Marines.

Following a brief illness, he died peacefully in his sleep November 21, with his sons at his side. He is survived by his children Michael, Maggie (Ronnie), Matt (Shena), Maureen (Richard), Martin (Katie) and grandchildren Micah, Claire, McKayla, Gracie, Matthew, Daniel, Amelie, Elizabeth, Alexis, Connor, Anna, Brody, and longtime friends Ted and Michele Grimm. We will miss you forever Pop.
