Moss Cecil Smith, 80, died Wednesday afternoon, July 15, at Methodist Medical Center, in St. Joseph, where he had been a patient five and a half weeks.
The son of David William and Martha Dianas Edwards Smith, he was born April 10, 1903, and had spent his entire life on the a farm west of Bigelow where he was born. he had just retired this spring from active farming, because of poor health.
On September 14, 1947, he was married in rock Port to Leta Alice Elizabeth Kent of Bigelow.
He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Albert E. "Tuck" Smith, and John D. Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Leta of the home; two sisters, Tracy Larson and Selma Smith, Mound City; one brother, Mack Smith, Mound City; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 19, in the Pettijohn & Crawford Home, Mound City, with Rev. Charles Hagee of St. Joseph officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Ellouise Robinson, organist, and Rev. Charles Hagee who sang "How Great Thou Art", and "Where He Leads Me."
Pallbearers for the service were Herschel Smith, LeRoyce Derr, O'Neil Larson, Bob Sipes, Kenneth Gillenwater, and Gene Kent, nephews of Mr. Smith.
Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.
