The body of N. P. Johansen was brought to Newell from Askov, Minn., arriving here Monday morning, and was taken to the home of J. A. Johansen, a brother of the deceased. He passed away last Saturday, May 14th, after suffering for several months with what at first was thought to be rheumatism but later was discovered to be terberculosis of the spine. His brother, Hans, of Valley Junction, arrived at Askov three hours after his death, and he accompanied the body to Newell.

Funeral services were held at the Danish Lutheran church in Newell at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Hakon Jorgensen. Interment was made in the Newell cemetery.

N. P. Johansen was born at Bjerreby, Taasinge, Denmark, March 7th, 1S66, and was 61 years, 2 months and 1 days old at the trine of his death. He came to this country in 1SS7 and first located at Clinton where he spent one and a half years. He learned the trade of blacksmith and machinist in Denmark From Clinton he went to Chicago and was there for 12 years where he operated two shops. From there he went to Fredsville, near Cedar Falls, and January 21, 1905, he came to Newell.

At that time he and his brother, J. A. Johansen purchased the blacksmith shop of J. B. Holtz and they operated it in partnership for two and a half years when he sold his interests to his brother and went to Askov, Minn , where he has since made his home He never married.

He took sick last September and for six weeks took treatment in a sanitarium at Mudbaden, Minn., for rheumatism. He sold his stock and machinery last fall and January first started for California thinking the climate there would help him. He had to stop at Denver and enter a sanitarium and it was there that the real cause of his trouble was located. He was there until April 17th when he returned to Askov knowing that his trouble was incurable.

He spent a week visiting in the home of his brother here last December and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Johansen visited with him in Askov a week or so last month.

The deceased leaves to mourn his death, three brothers in this country, J. A. in Newell, Hans of Valley Junction and Walter of Fernald, and one brother and one sister in Denmark. Walter Johansen. and Mr. and Mrs. Hans Johansen were here to attend the funeral services, the latter leaving for their home this morning.
