At 38 years old, this woman sailed to America with her 5 children, all under 14 years of age to search for her lost sailor husband.
She reached Quebec Sept of 1895 from her home in Coithnesshire, Scotland. She went straight to Cleveland where her husband last wrote to her. She then found men who saw him and said he went to Boston to sail to South Africa.
This brave woman, set off to Boston. After three weeks, she landed in Boston. She found no trace of her husband. She was determined, so she went to Portland to earn a living. (Thank you (Gail) StorybehindtheStones)
