Helen-Faye "Vicki" Stewart - died on Dec. 12, 2014 in Saco. She was born on Nov. 8, 1936 in Bangor, ME the daughter of Arnold Tracy and Mary Alice (MacDonald) Tracy. She grew up in Bangor, spent summers during her youth in Larchmont, NY. She began high school at Bangor (ME) High School and graduated from Mamaroneck High School in New York. She attended Rhode Island School of Design studying fashion.
She worked for a time at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC as a sales clerk. She also worked as a model for Saks and Izod.
Vicki met and married Rodney Stewart in Bangor in 1961. Three years later, they settled in Hallowell, ME, the place she always called home. She ran Stewart's Antiques and was a fixture on Water Street in the 1970's and 1980's.
Vicki was an avid collector with an eye for interesting and eclectic artifacts.
During these years, she was a member of the Hallowell Planning Board, Rowe House, and The Old Hallowell Days Committee. After Rod's retirement, they moved into an 1830's brick cape in Belgrade, ME and with the abundance of land, she created and lovingly tended a garden paradise. She became a member of the Kennebec Valley Garden Club and proudly displayed her gardens on tour. As a member of the garden club, she decorated the Blaine House in Augusta at Christmas for many years. Her gardens provided a beautiful back drop for the weddings of three of her children, as well as countless hours of play for her grandchildren.
Her interest in history and collectables led her to her position on the board of the Maine State Museum.
Gardening was only one of her artistic pursuits. Vicki also loved sewing, knitting, rug hooking, and incorporating objects from nature, that she would collect, into one-of-a-kind items. She especially loved incorporating objects from nature into her art.
Recently Vicki moved to Saco following the death of Rod to be nearer to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Brett Stewart and his wife Susan Salisbury of Gorham, ME, a daughter, Tracy Stewart and her companion Dana Landeck of Saco, a son, Christopher Stewart and his wife Lisa of Sparland, Illinois, a son, Bruce Stewart and his wife Shari of Albuquerque, NM. She was dearly loved by her eight grandchildren: Stewart Dupuis, Mary Alice Stewart, Rachael Stewart, Dylan Frank, Mitchell Frank, Keegan Stewart, Aspen Stewart and Colin Stewart.
Her intelligence, wicked sense of humor, honesty and uniqueness will be missed by her family.
Friends may visit from 6-8 PM Wednesday Dec. 17th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor at a later date.
