Mattie was the daughter of Phillip Willard and Elizabeth O. (Logan) and the granddaughter of Peter Benton and Sarah Lawlis of Arkansas. She was the mother of sons Truett and Avis, and one daughter, Menvil.

Mary Elizabeth (Lawlis) Jeffrey of the Golan Community died at her home on Rt. 2 Monday. She leaves her faithful husband - J.W. Jeffrey; a 17 year old daughter - Minvel; two sons - Avis and Truett. She was the daughter of P.W. Lawlis, a long time citizen of Jones County, now deceased. Her six brothers - George, Homer, Lewis, John, Edward, and Palmer were pallbearers. She leaves three sisters - Mrs. Charles Dean, Mrs. Jess Oree, Mrs. Thurman and three younger sisters, and one brother. Rev. R.H. Willams, her pastor conducted the service in the Methodist Church in Anson, assisted by F.A. Pope, and the Methodist pastor, Rev. Sharp. At her request, she was buried by the side of her mother.
