David was my best friend and next door neighbor throughout most of my childhood. He was tragically killed as the result of an accidental gunshot wound to the chest on the way home from hunting with his brother. I will never forget you David.

(The above was written by my sister, Linda (Willis) Stephenson, when she made this memorial for David. She never failed to leave fresh yellow roses on his grave, until her own death.)

David Harold Wright, 17, died in a Moberly hospital, after a hunting accident on some friends' property in Keytesville, Chariton County, MO.

David was the eldest son of Harold Marvin Wright and Bonnie Wilkinson. Born March 29, 1950 in Los Vegas, New Mexico, where Harold was attending school provided by the US ARMY.
Harold and Bonnie returned to Missouri, with David, after a year in NM and settled on a farm north and east of Wakenda, MO. They were living on that farm until the other four sons were born, then later bought a farm several miles north on M Highway, Carroll County, and after their boys were grown, moved to Carrollton, MO.

Surviving David were his parents, Harold and Bonnie; his paternal grandfather, Sam H. Wright, then of Kansas City, MO.; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkinson of Carrollton, MO.; his four younger brothers;
Dennis Marvin, Douglas Edward, Darrell Vernon and Dean Allen Wright.

In light of the fact that all the teachers signed up for absence of leave, Mr. Haggard, the Carrollton High School principal, closed the school, so the teachers and fellow students could attend the funeral service for David, who was in his Senior year. The funeral home was full, and some had to stand outside for the service. David attended Wakenda Grade School, and would have graduated high school with the class of 1968.

David was a member of the Wakenda Baptist Church.

The funeral was held by Gibson Funeral Home, of Carrollton and conducted by Rev. Edward Ferguson and Rev. A.W. Michaels. Interment was at Carroll Memory Gardens, on the NW side of the town of Carrollton, Carroll County, MO. His father, Harold was buried 40 years later on the anniversary of David's death.

David's light still shines in the hearts of those who still remember him.
