-- Virden, Ill., May 25.--The funeral of James A. Acree who died Saturday morning was the largest held in this city for years.
-- The services were to have been held in the First Baptist church, but it was seen that it would be to small to accomodate his wide circle of friends who wished to pay their last respects. The services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the M. E. church, conducted by the Rev. C. W. Webb, farmerly pastor of the Virden Baptist church but now of that church in Streator, assisted by the Rev. Robert Wallace of the Virdden Baptist church and the Rev. F. B. Ward of the First M. E. church.
-- The services were the largest attended here in years and it is estimated that from a thousand to twelve hundred were in attendance.
-- Deceased was the president of the Virden Commercial club and all the business houses were closed during the services. He was prominent of the Woodmen and I. O. O. F. lodge circles and a council man for the Woodmen and an office heolder in the local lodge of the latter. The above named lodges with the clerk's union and members of the commercial club attended the funeral in a body, with numerous friends and citizens, proved the marked esteem he held by all.
-- Deceased was comparatively a young man-47 years, 3 months and 16 days of age, but he had fought and won his way from the bottom to the top alike with friends and business associates.
-- He leaves his widow and his niece, Miss Pauline Acree, who made her home with her uncle, two brothers and three sisters, with a wide circle of other relatives and friends, who followed the remains to the Virden cemetery.
