Gary W. Maggard, age 77, of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 4, 1937 in Hellier, Kentucky to the late Curtis and Hester (Robinson) Maggard.

Mr. Maggard was the owner and operator of Maggard’s of Mount Vernon. He was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ and was member of the Reynoldsburg Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Lodge #9 F & AM. He was a two time past Master of the Bloomfield Lodge in Centerburg. Mr. Maggard was a veteran serving in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Trace) Maggard; his children Laura (John) Cook, Mark (Amy) Maggard, Linda (David) Patrick, Michael (Birgit) Maggard; his daughter-in-law Kim Maggard; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; his sister Patty (Glenn) Damron; and three step-sons, Roger Jacobsen, Paul Jacobsen, and Roy (Estrella) Jacobsen.

Besides his parents, Mr. Maggard was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-five years Geraldine “Jerry” Maggard, his son Matthew Maggard and his grandson Ryan Maggard.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 – 3 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held on Monday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Bob Veenhuis officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
