Michael C. Maggard, age 58, of Mount Vernon, went to meet his Heavenly Father Saturday, December 18, 2021.
He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family after a year long battle with cancer.
He was born on April 14, 1963 in Columbus, Ohio and was the son of the late Gary W. and Geraldine (Long) Maggard.
Michael surrendered his life to Jesus Christ in 1974 and was baptized at Reynoldsburg Baptist Church. Michael proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1981-1985. While serving in Neu Ulm, Germany, he met and married his loving wife of 37 years, Birgit (Sonntag) Maggard.
A skilled craftsman, Michael ran Maggard's of Mount Vernon alongside his brother, Matthew, and father, Gary. He eventually became the sole proprietor of Maggard's Carpet where his talents were respected and appreciated among members of the community.
In addition to his wife, Michael is also survived by his son, Josh (Kate) Maggard of Cincinnati; a daughter, Diana Christopher of Columbus; brother, Mark (Amy) Maggard of Powell; sisters, Laura (John) Cook of Lexington, Linda (David) Patrick of Mount Vernon; a sister-in-law, Kimberly Maggard of Mount Vernon; and six grandchildren, Riley, Isaac, Oliver, Connor, Eleanor and Sophia. Many nephews and nieces looked up to uncle 'Mikey' and relied on his advice and support. Also left to cherish loving memories of Michael is the Sonntag family of Germany.
Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Maggard and a nephew, Ryan Maggard.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. Funeral services will start at 11:00 AM on Thursday, conducted by Pastor Marvin Haught of Brandon Baptist Church. Burial with military graveside rites by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will take place in Mound View Cemetery.
