Richard Edward Cox was the son of George Curtis Cox (1869-June 24, 1899) & Florence Draper (Mar 4, 1875-April 17, 1922). They married on Jun 4, 1893 in Caldwell Burleson Co. They had 3 children; Curtis Cox (1895-1905), Minnie Agnes Cox (1897-1980), & Richard Edward Cox.

He married Audrey Mae Fisher Dec 31, 1926 in Caldwell, Burleson Co. They had 4 children, Georgia, Dorothy, Doris Jean, & Richard Jr. Richard & Audrey resided the majority of their lives in the small town of Rogers.

He was a retired farmer & carpenter, & was a member of the Methodist Church at Cooks Point, a church that was close to where his parents & his maternal grandparents had lived.

He was survived by his wife, children, 5 half-siblings, 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

RICHARD & AUDREY COX are buried in the Hendrick Plot in the Old Rogers Cemetery at the foot of his mother’s grave, just as he always wanted & wished for. A cutting from one of their old antique rose bushes was transplanted in the bottom corner of their lot & is still producing beautiful roses today.

One of my fondest memories of Granddad was sitting on his lap, in the old rocking chair & playing with his pocket watch. Oh! How that old watch entertained us kids. He also had a blue parakeet named Pete that perched on his shoulder & would eat from his plate at times. I tried my best to teach that old bird how to whistle, but he taught me how to whistle like him, instead. One day forgetting that Pete was on his shoulder, Granddad left to go play dominoes up town. He got almost there when he realized that the bird had hitched a ride. He turned the old car around & went back home to try & get the bird back in the house before it flew away. Fortunately Pete never left Granddads shoulder & was back in his cage safe & sound. We grandchildren always thought that was so funny.
