Frances J. Gorman, 83, mother of the general manager of the New York Mets, died yesterday at the Scandanavian Home For the Aged, Broad Street, Cranston.

She was the widow of Bn. Chief Edward E. Gorman of the Providence Fire Department and formerly resided on Plain Street.

She was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society of St. Michael's Church.

She was born in Providence, a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Fogarty) Dowling, and was a lifelong Providence resident until moving to the Scandanavian Home 15 years ago.

She is survived by two sons, James "Lou" Gorman of Bronxville, N.Y., general manager of the New York's National League baseball team and Leo E. Gorman of Shrewsbury, Mass.; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia L. Moran of Cranston, Mary A. Gorman of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Mrs. Frances J. Rider of Providence; a sister, Mary C. Battle of Warwick; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the James J. Gallogly & Sons Funeral Home, 671 Broad St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Ann's Church, Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston.
