Clinton MO - After an illness of about five weeks with heart trouble, Jacob Showalter passed away at his home near Lewis Station. Leaves his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Diehl and Mrs. Sallie Wiley, both at Lewis. Born in Butler County, Ohio, May 6, 1840; when 8, moved to Loganport, Indiana. When war broke out he enlisted and served till its close. He then moved to Missouri and married Miss Sarah Beaty in 1866. He started in life as a poor boy but at one time he owned over 1000 acres of land, all of which he divided between his children, except the 80 acres where he lived. He was president of the Bank of Calhoun. Burial in the Calhoun Cem.
