A well-documented biography of her older sister, Annie M. Maher, later Sister Mary Zachary, OSF, was obtained from the Archives of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia--now located in Aston, PA.
Their records showed that Annie (and Agnes's) parents were Denis Maher and Honora Scully. Annie's birthplace was given as County Tipperary.
Agnes Maher emigrated to the US circa 1884. She married Patrick Joseph Malloy on 26 November 1890 at Old St. Mary's RC Church on South 4th Street,Philadelphia, PA. At the time of her marriage, Agnes was living at 528 Buckley Street, Philadelphia, PA and working as a laundress. Agnes died on 13 December 1917 from Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Diabetes. At the time of her death, she was living at 507 Delancey Street, Philadelphia. Her daughter, Anna Clare, had died less than 5-months earlier in July, 1917 at the age of 23. Agnes was buried from Old St. Mary's RC Church. She was survived by her husband, Patrick Joseph and four remaining children: Francis, Marian Regina (Mary Olga), Katherine and Helena.
Agnes was pre-deceased by her sister-- Sister Mary Zachary, OSF (the former Annie M. Maher). Sr. Zachary was a registered nurse and nursing instructor who had been assigned to Catholic hospitals in Tacoma, Washington and Pendleton and Baker, Oregon. She died on 12 March 1912 and was initially buried in St. George's Indian Mission Cemetery in Tacoma, Washington. Her remains were later removed to Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma, WA.
