EX-STATE T.B. LEADER PASSES J.A. Gragg Former Seaside Mayor
Jefferson Audley Gragg, 72, former superintendent of the state Tuberculosis hospital and ex-mayor of Seaside, died in McMinnville Monday after a short illness.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Clough-Barrick funeral parlors in Salem. Mr. Gragg, a Kansas native, was born at Manhattan on July 13, 1868. He married Minnie Alice Cleveland, who survives, on March 22, 1893.
At Post 22 Years
He served as mayor of Seaside for several years, starting in 1914. In 1917 he was appointed superintendent of the state Tuberculosis hospital, a position which he held for 22 years until his retirement from the post in 1939. He was a member of Evergreen lodge A.F. and A.M., Salem, and Maple chapter Order of Easter Star.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Gragg, are a son, Albert C., Salem; two daughters, Mrs. William A. Zosel, McMinnville, and Mrs. Isabelle Wilson, Salem, and a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Merrill, also of Salem.
