A daughter of John and Ermina (Wilcox) Palmerton, Indiana lived on her family's farm until her marriage to Amos Dickinson Dec. 18, 1842 in Dearborn Co., IN. Amos and Indiana relocated to a farm near the village of Milford, Decatur Co., IN shortly after their marriage. Three daughters were born to this union, Ermina, Emaline and Cordelia.

Amos Dickinson died in 1850 or 1851. Indiana subsequently married Lewis H. Fairbanks, Mar. 27, 1852, he becoming the legal guardian of the Dickinson girls, and the family moving to Noble township of Shelby Co., IN.

This Fairbanks couple were parents of two daughters, Mary Louisa and Aurelia Grace, and two sons, John Palmerton and Vernon Adolphus. Only Mary and John survived to adulthood.

Later in life, Lewis and Indiana moved to a farm near Washington, Daviess Co., IN. It was there that she died Sep. 5, 1893. It is presumed that she was buried in Middletown Cemetery near the Fairbanks Shelby Co. farm.

The Sep. 6th, 1893 "Shelbyville Daily Democrat," reports the following: "Indiana, wife of Lewis H. Fairbanks, died at their residence in Davis (sic) county Sept. 5. Deceased was a sister of Mr. John Palmerton and Mrs. W. J. Grover. Time of funeral will be given later." A similar article appeared in the "Shelbyville Weekly Republican" two days later, stating her death at their home in Washington, Daviess County.

The "Martin County Tribune," of Sept. 8, 1893 states that "Mrs. Louis (sic) Faribanks, living on the state road about 3 miles south-west of town (Loogootee), died Tuesday evening, Sept. 5, of dropsy. She was 67 years of age and leaves a husband and two grandchildren. She was a most estimable lady."
