Jerry "Tater" Edwin Tate, 64, of Woodburn died Friday. He was born in Battiest, Okla., to Ed and Ollie Bee (McAlister) Tate.

As a youth, his father was in the service, based in Morrow Bay, Calif. After retiring from the service, he and his family moved to Oregon. Jerry went to school in Halsey and graduated from Central Linn High School. Later he went to Linn-Benton Community College for two years.

In 1982, he married Mary Lou Seals.

For the last 18 years, Jerry worked for Sulzer Pumps in Portland as a supervisor. Jerry and his wife returned to the Linn County area three years ago, but only recently moved back to Sweet Home. He enjoyed camping, the outdoors and wildlife, dirt biking, fishing, and traveling. He was a member of the Oregon Hunter's Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Ed Tate and Ollie Bee Tate.

Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brownsville Pioneer Cemetery.
