Herschell Barbee, 89, of Paris died Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Paris Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, in the Starrett-Rose-Roden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Fincher officiating. Private interment follows in Providence Cemetery under the direction of Starrett-Rose-Roden Funeral Home. The family receives friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born on March 31, 1917, in Lamar County, the son of Claude LeRoy and Willie Gandy-Barbee.

He married Ethel Rodgers on April 22, 1961. She preceded him in death and he later married Melba Dee Garvin on Oct. 15, 1994. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2005.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for the Texas Department of Transportation as a mechanic for 16 years.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Shelly, Lewis, John, Sherman and Leroy Barbee; and three sisters, Ada Holland, Maydell Allred and Ruth Smith.

He is survived by his step-son, Don Rodgers of Hot Springs; sister, Tollie Stone of Paris; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
