Mrs. Martin J. De Jong, nee Ebbie Hoksbergen, was born October 14, 1893, on a farm in Mahaska County, near Pella, Iowa. Death came suddenly early Friday morning, November 9, 1956, at the age of 63 years and 26 days. On January 20, 1913, she was united in marriage with Martin J. De Jong at Pella, Iowa. Her husband preceded her in death on June 15, 1940.
To this union were born 5 sons and 1 daughter: Albert, Wilbur, Charles, Paul, Harold and Junella. Junella passed away in 1920 and Harold passed away in 1927, both at early ages. A brother, Tunis Hoksbergen, and her parents also preceded her in death. Surviving beside the four sons are 6 grandchildren, 4 sisters, and 5 brothers: Mattie, Mrs. Ben Groenendyk of Pella; Louisa, Mrs. Marinus Roozeboom of Pella; Ray Hoksbergen of Pella; Ike Hoksbergen of Pella; Pete Hoksbergen of Pella; Jennie, Mrs. Pete Groenendyk of Tracy; Nick Hoksbergen of Sully; Magdeline, Mrs. Henry Roozeboom of Pella and Bert Hoksbergen of Pella.
She made profession of her faith in the First Christian Reformed Church, transferring her membership to the Second Christian Reformed Church of Pella at the time of the church's organization and continued to be a faithful member of this church until her death. She was a member of the Priscilla Ladies' Aid and always had a special interest in the Christian High Auxiliary.
Funeral services were conducted Monday morning, November 12, 1956, at 10 a.m. from the Second Chr. Reformed Church in Pella. Family prayer services at 9:30 a.m. at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home preceded the service which was conducted by Rev. Lambertus Van Laar. Serving as casket bearers were Nelson Roozeboom, Ralph Hoksbergen, Ed Hoksbergen, Edward Groenendyk, Albert Roozeboom, and Albert Hoksbergen. Miss Ella Vander Schaaf served as organist. Burial was made in the Oakwood Cemetery.
