Airld Augustus “Gus” Flory, 93, of Stella, Missouri, a WWII veteran who served two terms in the United States Army (Japan and the Phillipines), was received into Glory at 6:45 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Airld was born July 27, 1921 at Medora, North Dakota, to the late Charles Emmet and Zora Elnora (Lee) Flory and later his family relocated to Kalispell, Montana where he met his bride to be, Viola Thompson. Airld and Viola were united in holy matrimony at Kalispell on June 26, 1940, a loving marriage which lasted until Viola's death in 2010...nearly 70 yrs. Into this marriage were born 5 children: Verna (Jimmy) Manar of Neosho, Missouri; Ronald (Ann) of the state of Wyoming; Ila Mae (Herb) Wise, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Leland "LD" of Neosho, Missouri; and Carter (Mary) of Stella, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; forty great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; a sister in-law, Evelyn Simonson of Battle Ground, Washington; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Zora; all of his 9 siblings, Henry Jackson, George Jackson, Dave Jackson, Bertha Strohmeyer, Elnora Butts, Nancy Flory, Mabel Bond, Russell Swingle and Harold Flory; and by his wife, Viola. He is survived by his 5 children and grandchildren as listed above.

Airld had a diverse career but in his later years he owned a small farm in Southwest Missouri. It was his great delight to grow and give away vegetables to his friends and family, and he was always so grateful for even the smallest kindness from others.

Airld was a much-adored father, grandfather, and friend and will be sorely missed (until we see him again) by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Mr. Flory are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Bro. Mark Sumler officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lanagan Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Eddie Whittington, Kevin Whittington, Lee Flory, Jr., David Flory, Brian Flory and Tony Flory. Christopher Jackson, Dustin Flory, Dalton Flory, Colby Flory, Aaron Flanary, Steven Putnam, Chancellor Banchi and Nathaniel Lanningham will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
