Born July 28, 1906, in Shelby County, he was the son of Marion and Carrie (Hammond) Pope. He married Stella Bales on June 1, 1930, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 1985.
Survivors include one son, Jack (wife, Pat) Pope of Waldron; two daughters, Lou Ann (husband, Joe) Franklin of Shelbyville and Fay (husband, Robert) Iorio of Crown Point; three grandchildren, Vicki Franklin of Shelbyville; Stephen Pope of Waldron and Dominic Iorio of Hebron; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Pope was a lifelong Waldron resident.
He was owner and operator of Pope's Store in Waldron from 1929 until selling the business to his daughter and son-in-law in 1984. He retired in 1988.
Mr. Pope was one of the first members of Waldron Volunteer Fire Department and founder of Waldron Community Club.
He was a member of Waldron United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent; Administrative Council; Emeritas; and 50-year member of Waldron Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m., Sunday at Glen E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St. in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cameron Manifold officiating.
Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County.
