Shirley Lee Pope died October 19, 2014. She was born February 12, 1941 in Clewiston to Lee Bryan and Bessie Lenora Davis Bailey. She was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. Before rheumatoid arthritis took away her ability, she enjoyed cross stitch, gardening, reading and bible study. Her faith defined the person she was. Everyone she met talked to her about life as though they had known her forever. She had great empathy for people and animals. She loved her family, her dogs, her friends and her caregivers. She had an incredibly strong spirit and fought a long fight with pain and a crippling disability with a unique strength and dignity.
Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her husband, John Donald Pope.
She is survived by two daughters, Denise Wehling (Michael) of Bristol, GA and Donna Lee Robertson of Okeechobee; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Heather and Matthew; great granddaughter, Carly; three brothers, Lee Bryan Bailey, Jr. of Okeechobee, Lloyd Oliver Bailey of Thomasville, GA and George Matthew Bailey (Judy) of Crossville, TN; sister, Sheila Weldon (George) of Okeechobee.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are entrusted to the direction and care of the Buxton, Bass and Conway families of the Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home, 400 North Parrott Avenue, Okeechobee, Florida, 34972.
