Galen Elliot Cooper was inducted July 24, 1918 and was placed with the 135th Infantry, Co. E at Camp Cody New Mexico. From here he was sent to Camp Dix New Jersey, where he had passed the examination for overseas service. On September 24 he became a victim of influenza and pneumonia and on the 28th he answered his last call. He was buried in Lucas Cemetery with full military honors..
