He was born March 14, 1927, in Riverside, Neb., to Will W. and Lora Lenora (McCall) Layman, who preceded him in death.
He married Nancy Goelz, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Naomi, and three sisters, Violet, Vera, and Lucille.
He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1969. He had a mechanics business and later operated Sawyer's Inn restaurant in Goodhue, Minn.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Robbins and her husband, Gary, of Goodhue, Minn.; three grandchildren, Ray, Keith and Ethan Robbins, of Goodue, Minn.; a friend, Joan Hinsch, of Goodue, Minn.; a brother, Loyd Layman, of Lebanon; two sisters, Fern O'Quinn, of Lebanon and Mae Walker and her husband, John, of Yorktown, Ind.; four sisters-in-law, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services for Billy G. Layman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2006, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Andrew Krause officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at the church cemetery, under the direction of Lundberg Funeral Home, of Cannon Falls, Minn.
