Elaine Lenoir Murphy passed away at her home on November 27, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was born on June 4, 1929, in Barth, MS, the second child of Leon and Verda Lenoir of Gulfport, MS. Elaine is survived by her older brother, Dr. Leon Lenoir of Greenville, MS, younger sister, Fay Cozort, of OshKosh, WI (formerly of Houston, TX) and is predeceased by her younger brother, Larry Lenoir of Gulfport, MS.

Elaine grew up in several small towns in south Mississippi and east Louisiana. She attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. During her senior year, she married Arthur G. “Pat” Murphy. Pat graduated from Mississippi State with a degree in geology in the morning and married Elaine in the afternoon. They were transferred many times until their final move to Shreveport in 1964. They were married forty years at the time of Mr. Murphy’s death in 1991.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by her three children: Patricia “Trish” Murphy Eckles and husband Col. Robert “Bert” L. Eckles DDS (retired USAF) of Tampa, FL; Arthur Gilman “Gil” Murphy, Jr. and wife Valerie of Shreveport and Andrew “Andy” G. Murphy DDS and wife Kelly, also of Shreveport.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Kristen Eckles Modesitt and husband Scott (Brady and Reese Lenoir); Robert Eckles and fiancée Natasha Stevens, all of Tampa, FL; Rebecca Murphy Cook and husband Tom, (Murphy and Turner) of Tupelo, MS; Catherine Murphy Garrett and husband Blake, (MaeMargaret Lenoir) of Fort Collins, CO; James “Jimmy” Patrick Murphy O.D. and wife, Heidi, of New Orleans, LA; Laura Lenoir Murphy of Arkadelphia, AR; and Joseph Thomas Murphy of Monroe, LA. She will be affectionately remembered as “Aunt Lanie” to numerous nieces and nephews, who along with Elaine’s immediate family, appreciated her keen wit and humor.

Elaine was a faithful, loving and supportive wife. She took great pride in her children, supporting them in all their endeavors of life and always present at their athletic, academic and social events.

She was an active member and former President of the Shreveport Geological Auxiliary. She was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and belonged to the Circle of Catholic Women. She was a true believer in our Lord, Jesus Christ, knowing that only by His Grace was she a saved Christian.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 30, 2014, from 6:00p.m.-7:00p.m., with a rosary to be held at 5:00 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. The funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. December 1, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Michael Thangwa. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Murphy, Tom Cook, Will Cozort, David Harper, Bob Stewart, and Arthur Bright.
