Charles Russell TILT
TILT, Charles Russell It is with deep sorrow - but thankfulness - that the family of Charles Russell Tilt announces his passing on November 24, 2014 at his home in Richmond Hill. A well-known and dedicated volunteer in Richmond Hill and in the province of Ontario, he will be missed by all those who knew him and worked with him. A gentle but determined soul who worked for the greater good of the environment. Born in Doon, Ontario in 1919 and after serving in the RCAF during World War II, he continued his education, moving to Richmond Hill in 1950 as an employee and researcher for the Department of Lands and Forests. Here he made his lifelong home. Russell was pre-deceased by his loving wife Doris, and his brothers, John and George and his sisters, Margaret and Sherrie. He was the last remaining member of his generation. He is survived by his daughter Dr. Susan Purdy and his grandchildren, Charlotte (David), Timothy (Christa) and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Marion and Hudson, as well as many nieces and nephews with whom he constantly kept in touch. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 28, 2014, at the Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The service to celebrate Russell's life will be held on Saturday, November 29th, also at the Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to organizations concerned with the preservation of our Environment.
