KENDALLVILLE — ELVENA C SHOUDEL KARST, 93, of Kendallville died Thursday Sept 4, 2008 at Parkview Hospital Fort Wayne.

She worked at the Economy Market in Wolcottville, was a former waitress at the V&A Restaurant in Kendallville, and worked at Wal-Mart in Kendallville.

The Ashley High School graduate was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville, and a member of the church’s Rosary Society. She was a resident of the Lamplighter in Kendallville. Mrs Karst loved to paint, cook, make rosaries and was known for her sewing, quilting and making baby blankets.

On Oct 27, 1914 in Waterloo she was born to Joseph B and Madgalen (Blomeke) Miller.

She married Michael Shoudel in February 1938, and he preceded her in death in October 1972. She married Henry Karst in May 1973, and he preceded her in death in May 2003.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Shoudel of Garrett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Dennis DeLucenay of Speedway and Patricia and Kenneth Kleinrichert of Traverse City Michigan; three stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Ronald and Sue Karst of Kentucky, Jerry and Patsy Karst of Kendallville, and Dennis and Julie Karst of Ossian; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosena McQuin of Ligonier, and Zella Ann and Paul Collins of Butler.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Ambrose Miller; three sisters, Thelma Schorgen, Martha Szeman and Isabel Luke; a granddaughter, Karla Kleinrichert; and a great-grandson, Joshua Kleinrichert.

Services will be at 2:30 pm Monday at St Michael’s Catholic Church rural Waterloo with Father David Carkenord officiating. Burial will be in St Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Calling will be from 2 to 6 pm Sunday at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, and also from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the church on Monday. The Rosary will be recited at 6 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
