He was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Floding on Nov. 12, 1887. Mr. Sutherlund was baptized Jan. 25, 1885. To prepare himself to serve the Lord he enrolled in the Swedish Department of the University of Chicago, attending there 1892-93. He later studied with the correspondence school of the American Baptist Publication Society in 1921-24. He became a missionary in N.W. Minnesota in 1893; Pastor in Rutland, N.D., 1894-95; Pastor-at-large for the North Dakota Baptist State convention, 1895-98; an American Baptist Publication Society Colporteur for North and South Dakota, 1898-1902. In 1903, together with some folks from the Alexandria area and others he moved to Midale, Saskatchewan, Canada, to live. There he organized the Baptist church and served as pastor from 1903-1912. In 1913 he went with some folks to Montana, living near Rock Springs and Miles City, and served as an American Baptist missionary until 1930 when he and his wife retired to live in Alexandria.

His health had gradually failed and he passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, at the age of 93 years, 2 months, 21 days. Mourning his passing are many friends who have learned to know Christ through his labors.
