It has pleased God in his Divine Providence to call away Mrs. Carrie Sutherland, pioneer resident of Douglas county, who died March, 12th, at 3 p.m., at her home on Le Homme Dieu Heights, at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Carried Floding was born April 19th, 1866 in Dalarna, Sweden and came to America with her parents, brothers and sisters in 1869. They came directly to Douglas county taking a homestead in Alexandria township. She was married November 12th, 1887 to Olof Sutherland. They lived in Alexandria until the year 1903 when they moved to Midale, Can., where Mr. Sutherland was pastor of the Baptist church. The past 16 years were spent in Montana in missionary work, except several summers when Mrs. Sutherland returned to Alexandria on account of her health, and also because she was very fond of her lake home. In the winter of 1929 Mrs. Sutherland was taken seriously ill in Montana and was taken to a hospital in Miles City. After spending a month there she was directed to go to a lower altitude. She was then taken to Midway Hospital, St. Paul, where she received the best kind of care for five months, again rallying and returned to her home at Alexandria. After reaching home, she suffered a stroke the first part of June 1930, and gradually became weaker until she passed to her eternal rest.

Besides her husband who survives, there are three brothers and six sisters. Mrs. Sutherland was a faithful member of the Alexandria Baptist church. Shortly before she died she called her husband to her bedside and said, "I am going to die, but I am ready and not afraid to go. It will not be long until we meet again." May God bless the memory of our departed friend and sister.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m., from the Swedish Baptist church, Rev. L. J. Olson officiating, assisted by Rev. G. R. Anderson, and Rev. Sutherland made a few remarks. Interment was in the Geneva Woods cemetery. Pallbearers were: Peter Boline, Gust Johnson, Henry, Erick and Edward Floding and Edward Olson.
