Gold Star Mother Claimed in Death Here Early Today -- Mrs. Cloyd Locke Died After Eight Weeks' Illness; Funeral Wednesday.
Mrs. Nancy Jane Locke, wife of Cloyd Locke and one of this city's Gold Star mothers, died at 1:05 Monday morning at her home, 102 East Silver Street, following eight weeks' illness from pernicious anemia. She had been in declining health for the last five years.
Mrs. Locke was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Catherine Raudebaugh, and she was born June 3, 1861 at Fort Amanda. At the time of passing, she had attained the age of 70 years, 11 months, and six days. Her mother, Mrs. Catherine Baumgardner (sp.) Raudabaugh (sp.) was born on the Atlantic Ocean when the parents were enroute to this country from Holland (wrong starting location), and her father was a native of Pennsylvania (wrong/NY). His ancestors having served in the Revolutionary War.
Her marriage to Cloyde Locke was solemnized on October 26, 1884. They established their home on a farm north of the city where they resided until 20 years ago when they moved to this city, which has since been their home. To Mr. and Mrs. Locke, three children were born, one of whom, Guy Locke, died in action during the World War (i.e.: W W I). those surviving with the husband and father to mourn the passing of a devoted wife and mother are: A.M. Locke, Loudenville, OH and Mrs. Hazel Sellers, Lima, OH. One sister, Mrs. Catherine Locke, Elwood, IN also mourns her death.
Mrs. Locke was a member of the Church of Christ, Uniopolis, OH. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, north of Cridersville, with the Rev. C. J. Hance officiating. Burial will be in the church yard cemetery. Members of American Legion will serve as pallbearers.
