John William Thomas,86,of Oxford, Rt 2, died Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. at Anniston Nursing Home after a
long illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the Revs. J.R. Rhodes and G.D. Waits officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Gray Brown Service Mortuary in charge.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mary Bentley and Mrs. Lizzie Austin of Anniston, Mrs. Bell Austin of Gadsden and Mrs. Ollie Marks of Oxford; three sons, John and Jessie of Anniston, and James of Montgomery; one brother, J.R. Thomas of Edwardsville, 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A native of Georgia, Mr. Thomas had lived in Calhoun County most of his life and was a retired carpenter and a member of Glen Addie Baptist Church.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home until it is taken to the church and hour before services.
