She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Nov. 30, 1926, to the late James Kelly and Iris Welsh Puckett. She was raised in Charlottesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter L. Marshall, and a brother, James K. Puckett Jr.
Surviving are her two daughters, Donna Mabry and husband Bert of Lexington, and Sandy Devito of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jonathan Mabry of Lexington and Ashley Slawter and husband Mark of Wake Forest, N.C., and two great-grandchildren.
Marie and her husband moved to Lexington from Charlottesville in1954 and owned and operated Rockbridge Auto Parts (NAPA) until 1985 when she retired. She was a longtime member of Manley Memorial Baptist Church where she was very active in the church choir.
Marie will mostly be remembered for her daily exercise routine of walking the sidewalks of Lexington, and talking to friends along the way. Marie loved her family, friends and the staff at Blue Ridge Christian Home to whom we are very grateful for their love and care.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with Rev. Michael Wilkins and Melvin Bender officiating.
