Johnny was born to Charles & Ada Wise in Stanton, Texas on October 5, 1929. He married Mary Lou House in Stanton on May 30, 1952; they were 8 days shy of celebrating their 61st anniversary.

Johnny served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Johnny retired from Southwestern Bell/AT&T in March of 1987 after 35 years of service. Since 1975, he was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and an active member of his Sunday school class, serving as director of his Sunday school department for many of those years. He, also, faithfully served for over 20 years at the Baptist Crisis Center.

Johnny was proceeded in death by his parents: Charles and Ada Wise; four brothers: Levell Wise of Granbury, Gordon Wise of Midland, Charles Wise, Jr. of Midland, and Doug Wise of Midland; four sisters: Jewell Fisher of Austin, Sybil Flournoy of Austin, Georgia Bray of Midland, and Wanda Gamewell of Midland; and his granddaughter Jenifer Minton Sledge of New Braunsfel.
