Margaret Laura Clew, affectionately known as "Omie" to her grandchildren and "Aunt Billie" to much of the rest of her family, was born near Harper, TX and grew up near Fredericksburg, TX. Her parents were Gilbert and Minna Kott Leyendecker. Her mother's death at 9 years old impacted her deeply. She lived with her Aunt Laura until her father remarried. Her stepmother, Helen Klein Leyendecker, was a kind and good mother. As a child she earned money for the family by cleaning house for a local doctor. During World War II she moved to San Antonio with her sister, Alice. They both worked as waitresses at JoJo's Japanese restaurant. She then worked at a butcher shop. Around this same time, Alice married Hank Vanderheiden and moved. Nora also lived with Margaret for a short time until she met and married George Conwell. Margaret cared for, and in different ways supported her siblings and made sure that they had a place to live and food to eat. Throughout her life, Margaret cared much about her family and held them in her heart.

She found fulfillment in her role of mother and homemaker, raising 3 girls, sewing and cooking for them. Participating in the parent teacher organization was one of the many ways she enjoyed spending time giving to the community and showing her love for her children. Other activities she enjoyed were crocheting, gardening, tennis, water aerobics and walking. She enjoyed travel by RV, bus, and cruising. One of her greatest delights was her trip to Hawaii with her former son-in-law, Gene, and grandson, Daniel.

She was a devout Catholic and one of the original members of St. Benedicts Catholic Church. She was active in the church, and supported charities such as Food For the Poor and Disabled American Veterans.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Gilbert Leyendecker and Mina Kott Leyendecker; her brothers Horace (Ike), Gilbert, Victor, James, John, and her sister Alice; her first husband Arno Icki; her second husband Johnnie Clew; her daughter Susan; and her niece Brenda.

She is survived by sisters Nora and Joyce; Sisters-in-law Annabelle, Debbie, and Lynn; daughters Carol and Laura; grandchildren Daniel, Ann, David, Amanda, Trey, Peter and Natalie; great grandchildren, Eric, Samantha, and Tanner; Son-in-Law Charles and former son-in-laws Gene, Darrell, and Buster; nieces and nephews Phillip, Doreen, Glen, Shirley, Clifford, Elaine, Vincent, Karl, Cheryl, Robert, Allen, Derek, Steven, and David, and their spouses and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Effects of dementia began to be apparent in about 2011. She suffered a stroke on January 1, 2014 which greatly affected her speech, and another in March. She lived comfortably from March until her death at Starlight Home, a lovely assisted living home, and was very well cared for there until her death from the gradual decline in health and awareness. She died peacefully in comfort and safety on November 12, 2014.
